Congratulations Toronto On Earth Hour Performance
Congratulations everyone – job well done!!! Although a drop in power usage in Toronto of "only" 8.7% was recorded, in actual fact that was quite significant. That’s enough to power 262,000 homes. If you count as an average 2 people per home, that means over 500,000 people participated – almost 25% of Toronto’s population.
If you count in the entire Greater Toronto Area, there was enough power saved to operate over 434,000 homes which could be as many as 800,000 people participating!
Our family was up at our Stoney Lake cottage on Saturday night and we lit the candles at 7:45 pm and left them on till bedtime at around 11. Our lake neighbours participated too and there were no lights on that we could see anywhere around the shoreline.
Our office inside and outside lights were also off for the entire night. Overall I think it was a great reminder to all of us that it doesn’t take a lot to save a pile of energy. Remembering to do something as simple as turning lights off when you leave a room can add up over time to cost savings and less stress on the grid.
Keep up the good work everyone!
