Get Money From The Government When You Use The ecoENERGY Retrofit Program

If you currently own a home with older components or are contemplating buying a home that needs some upgrades, there are government programs which will help you pay for some of those improvements.

The Federal Government and the Province of Ontario along with some energy providers have combined to offer grant money for residential home owners to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes.

The ecoENERGY Retrofit Program will give you grants to replace inefficient furnaces, air conditioners, hot water heaters, insulation, windows and improve the air sealing in your home.

The first step is to have an Energy Audit completed by a qualified, approved company, of which there are several across the GTA.

I recently did a Real Estate Minute PODCAST interview with Ryan Haffner from Carson Dunlop Home Inspections and we talked about the ecoENERGY Program and how Carson Dunlop has set up a separate division to carry out these Energy Audit inspections.

There are varying sums of money being offered by the Federal and Provincial governments for upgrading the energy efficiency of your home’s components. The maximum grant per home is $10,000… $5,000 from the Province and $5,000 from Natural Resources Canada.

For example, if you replace your furnace, there’s up to $1,200 available, for attic insulation up to $1,200 and so on.

There may also be some applicable grant money available from the Ontario Power Authority and from Enbridge Gas… these are constantly changing so the best source of the most up-to-date data is from the company who does your Energy Audit.
