New System Allows Toronto Home Owners To Avoid Cleaning Evestrough
At our new cottage there is a long stretch of roofline that is very high and accessible only by a very long, scary ladder. I certainly did not want to have to be up there cleaning out evestrough every spring and fall or worrying about ice damming!
After reading an article by Steve Maxwell in the Toronto Star I ordered a new product from RainHandler Rain Dispersal Systems. The principle is simple… when rain comes off the roof, normally it goes into evestrough which can clog up with leaves or tree branches or it falls straight down and wears a ditch in your garden or wear on the lower roof shingles.
The Rainhandler System is designed to disperse that water into a mist which will be spread over a wider area and avoid that wearing on whatever’s below.
It’s probably not ideal where you need to duct water away from somewhere (ie alongside your house in a driveway for example) but you could combine the Rainhandler with normal evestrough on different roof levels.
We’ve now installed these on all the ‘second level’ roof eves of our cottage (see photos) and are very happy with the result.
