Part-Time Agents In The Toronto Real Estate Board Don’t Do People Any Favours
Early on in my real estate career (started in 1980) I realized that to provide excellent customer service, an agent couldn’t be in this business on a ‘part-time’ basis.
Some new agents think they’ll just ‘try it’ and see how it goes and still maintain their original day job. Here’s what could happen though. The part-time agent helps a buyer find a home on evenings and weekends. The home inspection has to be at 9 am Tuesday morning… how is the part-time agent going to be there?
How about this… there’s a problem with the closing and the buyer’s lawyer calls the part-time agent but can’t reach them during the day. And so on, and so on.
Toronto Real Estate Board sales statistics show that, in the 12 months of 2008, fully 25% of the registered sales representatives (out of over 27,000 members) did NOT sell one home! Shockingly, fully 60% of all TREB members did NOT sell one home per quarter during the year!
And don’t think it can’t happen to you, even if you’re a seller and you’ve hired a full-time Realtor to represent you.
Michael Polzler, the Executive VP and Regional Director of RE/MAX Ontario Atlantic Canada recently came to our Team office and agreed to talk about the experience of selling his home recently in a Real Estate Minute interview with Thomas Cook.
